Delighted with three previous projects completed by ourselves, Local businessman John Bevan confidently entrusted Blade Engineering to us. This involved the initial concept, specification, design, and the final construction and commissioning stage. Our company was the sole design and build contractor for this industrial building, and we utilised the modular Astron Building System to create a structure that suited their requirements.
To create an interesting and strong architectural feature, this building has the tapered columns - typical of the Astron steel frame construction - reversed and incorporated externally. These same columns also support a high-level crane system, enabling the smooth and efficient running of the engineering processes.
This multipurpose building includes a 12,000 sq ft light engineering facility, together with garage workshops and an additional 1,200 sq ft mezzanine office. The final building meets all the company's commercial requirements, with a bright, spacious interior and an aesthetically pleasing exterior.
This project involved the refurbishment of 6 exiting units and the construction of one newly-built unit at Ravenseft Business Park on the Cheney Manor Industrial Estate in Swindon.
We transformed this space into an attractive, appealing environment that’s suitable for occupancy by a wide range of companies. The contemporary style of these units and the use of a brick and metal cladding finish create a modern and efficient appearance. Each business is then enhanced by this, as it exudes modernity and style. The use of modern materials and construction techniques produce buildings that reduce maintenance costs and, with higher insulation values, are more environmentally and cost efficient.
Churcham Business Park is an industrial development built for the Smart family, who own the poultry business Smart Farms. The family decided to diversify and turn part of their farm area into a business park, to provide twenty small units with offices, within a rural setting, but close to the city of Gloucester.
Dove Construction was initially approached by the client to assist in an advisory capacity, specifically regarding planning permission. Our professional expertise helped the client to secure planning approval, while the contract to build the revised scheme was later won through competitive tender.
The units are a straightforward construction of steel framework surrounded by roof and wall cladding. We successfully completed the entire complex, including the associated car parks and site roadways.
"We were delighted with the way the project turned out. The whole site is a credit to you, us and the village of Churcham. It is a quality development befitting the 21st Century and without doubt all the tenants are pleased. The project was completed on time, there was good liaison with us as owners, and I couldn't do anything but recommend Dove Construction in the future.”
This vehicle hire administration and engineering facility was built by Dove Construction following competitive tender. It was also on the recommendation of the commercial agent handling the contract.
The main building was constructed for the developer of the site, with additional work being done for the eventual occupiers, GWR Vehicle Hire. As part of the Northgate Network, one of the UK's largest suppliers of light commercial vehicles, GWR Vehicle Hire invested an additional £15,000 to adapt this general engineering facility to meet their specific requirements.
We were instrumental in building the vehicle bay servicing area and the second-storey offices, incorporating a reception area, storage space, and canteen. External hard standings and a prepared stone grounding for vehicle parking completed the bespoke fit out. The building's conventional steel portal frame was locally engineered with a mixture of masonry, double-skinned cladding, and roofing.
Swindon Services, a division of Thamesdown Council, required the construction of a recycling and waste management facility, which was both utilitarian and fully accessible to the public. We won the tendered contract for our particular expertise in reinforced concrete construction, having worked for Swindon Services on numerous projects in the past.
A conventional civil engineering contract, our team delivered the construction of the reinforced concrete elevated platform with public access ramps, together with all the associated drainage. The storm water drainage required the construction of several concrete pipes to discharge the possibly polluted water into a mini pumping station for correct disposal.
The raised concrete platforms were treated with a special surface treatment, that was repellent to water and oil attack. This is essential for a facility that deals with diverse waste and potential spillages on a daily basis.
