Dove right on course for Gloucester Golf Club

On September 1st, Gloucester MP Richard Graham is officially opening a new split-level driving range built for the Gloucester Golf Club, by Cheltenham based Dove Construction. Situated on Robinswood Hill overlooking Gloucester, the range provides 13 bays and two teaching rooms.

With a background and experience in Sports and Leisure projects and commercial buildings, Dove Construction was the ideal choice to complete this contract. A split level range was needed to cope with the sloping hill site. The finished building also had to blend into its surroundings so a variety of materials were used, including a green sedum living roof and timber cladding. Sustainable and recycled products were used wherever possible. The whole course was kept open to members and players throughout, to minimise disruption to the day-to-day operations.

To complicate matters, the site is home to protected species, including newts, which meant Dove Construction had to protect their natural habitats. On-site monitoring of the wildlife took place until the project completed.

To complete the works and compliment the new driving range, a replacement putting green was laid and new practice facilities were constructed. Refurbishment works to the club house were also carried out which means that The Gloucester Golf Club now fully meets the demands of the modern-day golfer.

The London-based owners of the course were kept totally informed and involved in progress right from the outset, with weekly briefings. Dove Construction's in-house design team responded speedily to any change in requirements and were able to suggest alternative materials and specialist suppliers to help keep within budget.
